History

Founder Jan van den Elzen set up the company in 1956 as producer of outdoor vegetables and small fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, apples and cherries. From the start the company excelled by means of its implementation of modern technology in order to accommodate the customers. The innovative drive wasn't limited to the machines, but could also be seen in the marketing approach. For example, Van den Elzen Plantenkwekerij Erp was one of the first horticultural companies that became specialised in growing plant material in the '70s.

In the mid '80s both sons Jos and Henk joined the company on a full-time basis. They took a flying start with a substantial investment in machines, hot houses and a large production hall with cold stores; everything to be able to serve the ever-growing demand of the customers even better.

Since that time Van den Elzen Plantenkwekerij Erp has developed into one of the five leading plant growers in the Netherlands; with an extensive collection of plants for the production of strawberries, asparagus, raspberries and leeks.
